Trump, the political hurricane, still rages
#19
Hoot Gibson Wrote:^Excellent analysis, TRT. I agree on all counts. If nothing else, Trump is demonstrating that an articulate conservative with guts can change minds and hearts. I am not sure Trump is a true conservative, but if he is not, then he is doing a good job playing one on TV.

Thank you Hoot. Just this morning I heard a rabid liberal trying to defend the government's forays into the housing market. The federal government owns a fantastic number of single and multi family homes across the US, in which they house the poor (or whatever). At any rate, during his defense this guy quoted his grandfather whom he referred to as papaw. When will these die hard Democrats get one simple fact through their decidedly thick skulls? The Democratic Party of their grandfathers bares no faint similarity to today's liberal socialist Democrats. It would therefore be much more apropos to quote Lenin or Trotsky than the grandfathers of the Democratic Party. Somewhere along the timeline, my opinion is the time of Bill Clinton onward, the Dems morphed into socialists. They had to. If they were going to buy votes, every coming election season they were going to have to up the ante to spur the interest of the takers. I would point to both the socialist message and the crowds Bernie Sanders has drawn to make that case.

But, with regard to Trump's integrity. Conservatism is something that is hard to fake in live, largely off-the-cuff and interactive speeches like I heard last night. He interacts freely with the spontaneous comments he hears from the crowd, often incorporating said comments into his presentation. In fact, one thing that has been conspicuously missing from all of his appearances has been a teleprompter. IMO, if he was being anything other than honest and if he was speaking from anyplace other than his heart, he'd surely have slipped up by now.

I wasn't one of those who were taken in by the Obama charisma in 2008. Several of his comments chilled me in fact but, the one that tipped me off to the trouble coming our way was his comment about America's unethical usage of energy. I thought huh? It's ours to use is it not? So here we are 7 years later and America as she exists today is diminished in every possible category save one, debt. I believe sooner or later everybody tips their hand, equally I believe Trump is authentic. Whether or not he can deliver on all he has promised, only time would tell. And yet, even if he delivers on a portion of what he has said, he would be a great President.
