If trump were to be elected president all the 2nd and 3rd rate nations who are threatening to destroy us would pull their horns back in immediately. The exact same thing happened when Reagan was elected. Iran was throwing it's weight around and had 52 Americans in jail for nearly a year and a half. While there was some question as to whether the spineless Jimmy Carter would be reelected, the threats and nose thumbing went on as usual (a new phenomenon from the American perspective BTW).

Once it became apparent that Reagan was the new heir apparent Iran couldn't capitulate fast enough. Those hostages were returned with no threats attached well before Mr Reagan assumed office. The Iranians knew all to well that he was not bluffing. Contrary to public opinion, the world outside our borders are not intellectually diminished. They know if there is a weak President in office or not.

Americans have gotten so used to hearing that there is nothing we can do in today's foreign policy exploits that they have come to believe it. There are many things a sovereign super power can do other than dropping bombs and starting wars. And yet, if the well being of the US public is under threat, war should not be taken off the table.

At any rate, there are 535 members of the US Congress and the Supremely misguided Court to hold Mr Trump's feet to the fire. And, unlike current administration officials who when caught walking on the law just redefine it to suit themselves, I would think Trump would honor the law.

Reagan: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down those walls"

Trump: "Mr. Mexico, build those walls"
