ASHLAND University of Louisville signee Megan Hensley has come up with many âwowâ moments throughout her high school career.
The Ashland senior left her coach in awe with another one on Monday.
Hensley ripped a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Kittens past Lincoln County, West Virginiaâs No. 1 team in Class 3A. Ashland won 7-5 with Hensley earning the pitching victory.
âIt was just back and forth the whole way,â said Kittens first-year coach Scott Ingram. âBoth teams played really well. It was just a great ball game this early in the year anyway, and to win it, itâs even better.â
Facing a 5-3 deficit in the second extra inning, Ashland stirred up a one-out rally. Kaitlyn McKenzie sparked it with a base hit. Megan Griffith followed that up with a walk. Katie Baldock loaded the bases with a bunt single, setting the stage for Hensley.
Lincoln County pitcher Faith Huffman tossed Hensley three straight balls to begin the at-bat. According to Ingram, Hensley had the green light from him, as she always does. The right-handed hitter smacked a line-drive shot over the left-center-field fence.
âI barely turned my head around in time to see it go over,â said Ingram, who was coaching third.
She finished with a 2-for-3 effort and those four RBIs. She amassed 10 strikeouts from the pitching circle.
Baldock chipped in a pair of hits while Megan Murphy turned in a 3-for-4 night.
