TRUST me not only are the fans of other school sick of you on here most of the JC fans are too! I don't understand why you claim to be a JC fan then get on here and insult every player and coach form the late 70's and 80's era of JC football. The truth is JC had a 10 win season in the late 70's that included to ALL-State players in Jerry Butcher and Tim Gillispie! Spike Berkhimer had a heck of a team in 1983 that finished the year 8-3. Spike had a bunch of years over .500! Spike was able to put a defense on the field that held a Paintsville team with a SEC athlete Toney Mays to ZERO points in regulation! The 1986 JC team ended the year at 3-8 but they managed to do something that even Matney has only done 1 time. They Beat a district Champ Clay CO who was competing in the Same Class (3A) as JC! Only one time has a Matney coached team beat a district champ for the same class they were competing! That 86' JC team had 2 Kids go on to college and win National titles those being Steve Estep and Chris Deaton! Like I said not only is most of BRG getting sick of you so are the JC fans!
All anybody needs to do to see that I am right about Johnson Central's football program is to look at the scores of the Apple Bowls against a 1A team that has never won a state title. Johnson County has always had superior talent to the Paintsville district, but weak coaching and politics drove enough good players across the creek to allow the Tigers to dominate the series for years.

That changed when Steve Trimble hired Bill Musick and Coach Musick began working with the elementary schools and the middle school to develop the best feeder program in eastern Kentucky. By the time that Musick left JC, the Golden Eagles were dominating the series with Paintsville. They did not beat Paintsville again until Matney joined the program and it quickly became clear that most Johnson County talent would be staying home to play and JC resumed pounding the Tigers until the Apple Bowl was mercifully canceled.

Nothing I have said is a knock on any former JC coach or player. Ed Vanhoose was an outstanding coach and posted the school's first undefeated regular season. Unfortunately, he was not around long and a successful season.

Pointing to a win over Clay County to belittle Jim Matney's accomplishments at Johnson Central is one of the silliest things that I have read in awhile.

I will go out on a limb and say that Clay County has never fielded a team that would have beaten Covington Catholic, let alone Highlands.
