In the first half, it looked as if Knott had paced itself right out of the game.
In the second half, Knott bodied up on "d", were surprisingly quick and played like men. Hall's late fourth quarter leg cramps were testimony to Knott's
second half effort. Hall was very effective guarding Spalding in the second
half. He was able to body Spalding out of position (without excessive contact),
and he was getting great help from the team. Even though Spalding was rejecting most everything in the paint, Hall was able to explosively move and
power up for close baskets during crunch time.
Zaga is right about Justice. He's all that. As an older guy, I'm sayin' all you
Herbie Stamper fans better check out this year's version of Cameron Justice.
By the way, I'm a big fan of Stamper. Late in the game, Justice and the killer
quick guard from Trinity went head to head. Great stuff. Slight edge to
Justice.
Combs is quick and strong. Has a good handle. Like most young players,
his shot is still evolving. His first shot was contested and he had to adjust
in mid air. He wound up using his grade school heave. Nothing but
nylon with a perfect but not too long follow through. Made a few mistakes
and didn't waste a microsecond, he stayed in the flow of the game. He's going to be a good one. Solid at both ends. Good head on his shoulders.
Cornett and Christian are no doubt tired of hearing about role playing and
garbage baskets. They are relentless. They have solid skills. They are
men. They are the core of this team. Thirty years from now they will
still be kicking butt in dirt ball and working in good paying jobs that require
responsible people who aren't driven by praise.
Mr. King is a better coach than many of you guys give him credit for.
His team blocked out and rebounded, used man-to-man fundamentals
in their defensive schemes and took high percentage shots. In addition,
they took their time against pressure, full court and half court. I'm on
board. Knott has a decent shot at winning at Rupp. Perry Central will
be the perfect nemesis to prepare Knott for that shot.
