I worked in the mines for 12 years and as bad as I hate to say it... but sometimes things just happen. I have been involved or witnessed many accidents and My mines had two fatalities. Some are things that are uncontrollable, for example, this fatality here could have been uncontrolled. Drawrock will and does fall and it can't be stopped. I have seen falls that would absolutely stun you as too why it fell and top stay up when you knew it was going to fall. I do agree with you...something needs to be done. The first thing IMO is the hours these men work needs to be limited. When I worked for Massey, it was nothing for me to work 18 hours a day, 7 days a week. When you work these kind of hours you get tired and lose your sense of protection. You don't pay as much attention to whats going on as too what time is it and how much do I have left. Thats the first thing I think needs changed.
