This is for TopNotch simply cause of excuse making. Yes it is easier to have a great team when you have more players to choose from. However if you think that is why Mayfield is always good. Wrong. We play an out of class schedule that some 5a schools dont play. Yet we win all bigger schools with more boys to choose from. In the 18 years we were a 2a school (one of the smallest with an enrollment that at the time would have qualified us for 1a but at that time a school could choose to play up. Back in 86 my first year at varsity we dressed 34 players. We beat Newport Central Catholic to win our second straight state title. That year the 2a team with the 1a enrollment also beat Paducah Tilgman and Heath the 3a and 1a state champions. We despite being one of the smallest 2a teams in the days of the 4 class system which means many more teams competing per class. In 18 years we won 5 state championships and had 5 runnerups and only one time did not make the semi finals. So we played in the 2a state championship 10 times out of 18 years and were in the state final 4 all but one year. So all this enrollment crap is just that crap. Pride tradition coaching is what made us a dynasty not enrollment.
