The Southern Middle School Lady Warriors basketball team captured the 8th grade state title last weekend at KBA in Lexington coming out on top of a tough 32 team field. They defeated Shelby County West and Middlesboro in pool play to enter the tournament round with a bracket number 1 seed. They advanced to the second round by defeating crosstown rival Northern Pulaski in the first round of the tournament on Saturday. On Sunday Southern faced 3 tough Louisville area teams in Crosby (Quarterfinals), Christian Academy of Louisville (Semi-finals) and Noe (Championship game). The Lady Warriors defeated all three teams to complete the perfect weekend and capture the championship. 7th grader Kennedy Harris was named tournament MVP.
