Studies are reflecting a downward trend in youth football participation country wide. Over the last 4 years..participation has dropped by 16% nationwide.
Would love to see Shelby see some sustained success football wise. Great for the county. Belfry is a different animal. Football is King....and nothing else is even close to being second. It's crazy to see the sheer number of kids participating from flag level all the way thru the 8th grade.
However...if the economy doesn't change......there won't be any way for our local teams to stay competitive statewide.
Of course, I would love to see Valley see some sustained success too, lol. I am fully aware that it has been basketball first and everything else a distant second around here for far too long. Hopefully this group can be part of trying to change all that.
We have 20 in 5th/6th, close to 30 on the 3rd/4th team, and we have over 60 in our K-2nd little league program. So the numbers are there, if they stick with it and don't fall off.
