Where do the young Cardinals rank?
#2
Depends on the competition breakdown.

McCracken is a very good team.
Tilghman is a down compared to past teams.
Ft. Campbell is way down.
Murray is stronger than normal.

By and large I think what it tells us is Mayfield is once again very strong and very deserving of the #1 beside their name in every poll.

The fact remains I think there are some other 1A teams that might (key word) be able to beat Murray very close, and probably would beat Tilghman, but I don't see any 1A team that would have played McCracken that close so early in the season.

The bigger question now is what happens with that gap. Does Mayfield develop faster than everyone else and open that gap to where they once again are untouchable? Does the other teams click and develop more closing that gap by November?

That we don't know... but the safe money is that Mayfield will once again be the team that requires a perfect game to defeat them come the time of the year you have to wear long johns to games.
