[Granny Bear]

Brandon Orr, meteorologist for WYMT-TV, posted on his face book that contrary to popular thought, there were no tornadoes in Harlan County during that storm. He also announced that he was going to be doing some kind of work shop on the news tonight, to help people tell the difference. I sent these pictures to him on face book.

I know the two people who took those pictures, and am comfortable in believing them when they tell me they were rotating clouds. Now, I know that if they don't touch down, they are not considered a tornado. I don't know if any of these actually touched down or not, it's impossible to tell sometimes in the mountains because you can't follow the cloud all the way to the ground. But looking at the funnel clouds, both are completely white. So that suggests that there is no debris in the funnel, so probably no contact with the ground.

Perhaps we didn't have an official tornado after all.

This weather stuff fascinates me.
