T-cat, I as well like a 4-4 that we call 31 base. To the t.e. side or strength we play a 3 tech. and align our d-tackle on the outside eye of the guard to absorb a guard,tackle double team. Away from the strength call we play a 1 tech., align on outside eye of center to force a center, guard double team.We play our de's tight!
D.e.'s place their inside foot just inside the inside foot of the t.e and the outside foot is just outside his as well. His job is to sqeeze the t.e. down and take off tackle dive, never give the t.e. a release on our backers. By running a 31 base(4-4) we can absorb their entire o-line with our front 4 guys. Teach the front 4 to attack half-man and create doubles by being gap players ( 3 and 1 tech.'s). teach D-tackles to create double team, try to split it, if they feel theirselves getting drove out, drop now!
solid D when you dont have kids strong enough to line up in 2 and 4 tech.'s and man handle people. We play a cov.3 with our 31 base.
