Active Schools that have never been to the Sweet 16
#21
Pulp Fiction Wrote:March Madness is almost upon us. And there's nothing bigger in high school sports in the bluegrass than the KHSAA Boys Sweet 16.... "The Greatest Show in Hoops"

But there are some schools across the state that have never made an apperance in the Sweet 16.

Since my home region is the 15th, I'll start. But let's keep in mind ACTIVE schools. If you want to list schools that have been closed down or consolidated, that is good to. But please label them accordingly.

15th Region (ACTIVE)
Pike County Central
Lawrence County
Magoffin County
Piarist School

Current 15th Region schools with one apperance in the Sweet 16.
Sheldon Clark - 1983
Phelps - 1988
Prestonsburg - 1989
Allen Central - 1994
South Floyd - 2001
East Ridge - 2004

15th Region (DEFUNCT)
- Louisa (Lawrence)
- Blaine (Lawrence)
- Salyersville (Magoffin)
- Flat Gap (Johnson)
- Oil Springs (Johnson)
- Van Lear (Johnson)
- Auxier (Floyd)
- Hellier (Pike)
- Millard (Pike)
- Feds Creek (Pike)
- Warfield (Martin)
- Johns Creek (Pike)
- Mullins (Pike)

15th Region Teams with a State Championship
Shelby Valley - 2010
Paintsville - 1996
Inez - 1941 & 1954

You forgot Meade Memorial in the "defunct" category Pulp....I think they had 3 or 4 regional championships as well.

I can also think of Inez, Garrett, Maytown, McDowell, Wayland, and Martin, and Wheelwright that could be added to the defunct list too. I'm pretty sure some of those schools have been to the Sweet 16 as well.
