Elam commits to Kentucky over Alabama

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- Mark Stoops has gotten his share of wins on the recruiting trail. On Thursday, the Kentucky football coach pulled off -- literally and figuratively -- one of the biggest.
Matt Elam, a defensive tackle from John Hardin High School, picked the Wildcats over Alabama Thursday morning in a ceremony at his school's performing arts center.

Elam, a 6-foot-6, 380-pound tackle, had been scheduled to announce his college choice earlier this month, but postponed the announcement to a date nearer to next week's National Signing Day. He'd narrowed his choices to the Wildcats and Crimson Tide, and his commitment marks a significant head-to-head victory for UK against one of the nation's elite programs.
