I think it could be done...
-We would have to handpick a group that would cover all geographical regions... obviously we can't make everyone a mod.. so it would have to be done off-site by email exchange or on a secondary type of forum
- We would openly have to take nominations in advance... say The Quarter-Finals Round through December 24th we would accept nominations. This would allow people to review guys who may get overlooked.
- We would commence democratically choosing a team
What would be awesome is if there were some members of the media that wanted to get involved that may not vote in the AP voting... for example when Derek Forrest posted on here if he wanted to be a member of the committee and subsequently get the selected players some love by announcing the team. Or if members of EKB or other radio stations around the State announced the teams..or at the very least...the players from their coverage area. This leads to this thought I have had.
My gut instinct and the marketing side of me has a slightly different idea. What I would really love to do is a variation of "The Class of The Commonwealth" (Which is typically regionally biased).. I would love to do something like the
example only... STATE FARM KENTUCKY ELITE 25 (PRESENTED BY WKYT AND BLUEGRASSRIVALS)
Have a flagship media correspondent take ownership, get a corporate sponsor on board and make a big deal of it. Send an engraved plaque to the school of each player to present. Choose 10 players on Offense, 10 on Defense, and 5 All-Purpose Players that are non-class specific that best exemplify being the BEST in the State. The Corporate Sponsor simply pays for the Plagues and the Freight to ship them... The Media Flagship makes the announcement... and the BGR committee puts it together and handles the logistics. The Corporate Sponsor gets free air-time and advertising..the Media Flagship gets a segment they can hype to get more unique viewers (and secondarily more clout if they want to be considered the go to for HS Sports News) and BGR gets the benefit of the discussion through the nomination side and afterwards when people make their claim why their guys should have been on the list.
You can also pick an offensive MVP, a defensive MVP, and the Player of the Year. College Football has numerous different awards...Mr. Football doesnt have to be the only award. Much like the Walter Camp Award the Player of the Year can have a fan voting component that makes up a percentage of choosing the winner in addition to the votes from the committee.
