Ok hillbilly, your way off on this one buddy!
How did Dudley step into a good situation?
In a dist. with such week teams like Danville, Lex.cath., and little ole Boyle county.
What a great situation it is to be in the toughest 2a dist. in the entire state and not to mention your Bourbon county. Hummmmmmm, What a cake walk! It seems to me your the one who needs to do alittle more research Hillbilly( a whole lot more to tell the truth). It's a real good situation Hillbilly to have to face 2 teams in the playoffs who beat you by an avg. of 47 points each in the reg. season.( lex.cath and Boyle co.)
Then having to beat a very good Lawrence co. team who just beat the best 2a team in the state breaking Breathitt co.'s 43 game win streak. Bourbon co. the only #4 seed to win a state championship in the toughest 2a dist. in the state, but Dudley just knew and Bourbon co. knew that they'd win it all along. That's pretty much what you said Hillbilly.Dudley took an avg. team and won a state championship playing in the toughest 2a dist. in the state. But it rained, but it was muddy, it all fell in Dudley's favor.( besides the fact and simply excuses by people who are excusemakers).
So mabey you need to get started on your research Hillbilly. Start by looking up Bourbon co.( don't go to good situations in your websters), then proceed to look up Danville, lex. catholic, and Boyle co.( see the ky. state champions section).
After that look up the word miracle( something you believe in but cannot see) and then tell me what you call what Dudley did at Bourbon co being a #4 seed , losing 3 games in the reg. season by an avg. of 40 points or more, then winning the 2a title in 97. Hillbilly, no way! ok now you tell me who your first choice would be??

Vince--I don't know what kind of drugs you are on--but by all means, PLEASE SHARE.

It WASN'T and average team that Hilton had. They were talented and had been coached well prior to him coming (which is 1 out of 2 reasons why he came to begin with). EVERYONE associated with the Bourbon County program at that time knew that they had a special group. IF you don't believe me--why don't you ask someone from Bourbon.

When you start to talk about the weather--that even proves my point even more. Hilton HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WEATHER (unless he called in a few favors with God--which I seriously doubt due to some of his other classless maneuvers over the years).

He got lucky. Everything fell into his favor.

That doesn't make a coach great at turning around programs (which is the THREAD TOPIC). If this was about great coaches--I would agree. But it isn't. Pay attention--Dudley KNEW WHAT HE HAD. He knew if was a great situation.

All of these powerhouse teams that you listed were not in their "glory" days yet. No championships for Boyle at that time, LexCath couldn't hardly win a 2nd round playoff game.

YOU are the one who needs to learn the facts.

And to conclude--my pick--would be one of the best coaches in the HISTORY of Kentucky high school football:

Took a perennial winning program that COULD NOT get over the hump against teams like Pikeville and Cumberland--and REWROTE THE 1A RECORD BOOK. Beechwood wasn't anywhere near as good as they were once he took over.
