Belfry Pirates Vs Wayne Co. (3A State Championship 12/6/13)
oneijoe Wrote:Totally agree with you on Belfry's defensive performance...

But keep in mind... Wayne Co. held Corbin to -12 yds, Central to 8 yds, and Tilghman to 95 yds. These are game total rushing yards over the past 3 weeks. Kind of scary defensive numbers, but it is what it is.

Like I've said a few times now, Belfry NEEDS to be able push Wayne off the ball and win with power. I don't think the Pirates can match them with speed... I'd just hate to see Belfry get too cute and go away from what I believe is the best chance to win - hog the ball and win between the tackles.
To answer your earlier question, before the game I thought we would need 28 to win against BC. Once we were up 21-6 I knew that was enough because they weren't consistently threatening us.
I agree. The Belfry bread and butter is that fullback and halfbacks and even QB inside those big tackles. What Belfry does so well is get enough plays to the outside,by the option, toss, or quick pass to the WR to usually keep that middle soft or at least soften it up even if a D has been keying the FB. Also if Belfry finds that outside open on the toss or option, they have been known to keep picking up yards on the outside and then shift back to pounding the middle. Belfry usually just does what they need to do and make adjustments. One thing I have not seen Belfry do the last two weeks is try to hit Taylor long. That may be a product of the D they have faced or gameplanning. A long TD pass or big gain can go a long way to taking an extra man out of the box.
