Belfry Pirates Vs Wayne Co. (3A State Championship 12/6/13)
Motivator Wrote:These are the facts: Belfry has not seen an offense like this all year. Very hard to stop.
Wayne has not seen a team as physical as Belfry.
Should make for a very interesting game. I look for special teams and turn overs to play a huge factor in this one.
Long post...every one bare with me as I was thinking about this as I drove back from KY yesterday.

Belfry has seen offenses like Wayne (in fact they have seen several)... just not one identical to them.

Wayne has not seen anything like Belfry. Bell is the closest thing to Belfry but as I mentioned previously the Bobcats don't have a single skill player who might have even seen the field if they played for Belfry.

I love this Wayne County team... I have been following them all year and the comment I made back in October is that Wayne is the type of team I could see losing in the 2nd Round...but at the same time the type of team I could see winning the whole thing.

I am sure someone will get all butthurt about what I am about to say and take their own meaning from it or pick out a certain part of it, but this is the way I view Wayne and it is intended as a very positive compliment:

Wayne County is dominantly an "OK" football team.

What this means is when I look at Wayne I see an undersized team, without any elite speed, without dominant defensive players, and an offense that is predicated on having the other team make the mistakes. The one true playmaker on their team is their gritty QB who doesn't have the strongest arm or the fastest feet. Yet... this team of role players do their job like clockwork.. make each other better... and rarely make any type of critical error. They take exactly what is given to them, they are comfortable going on long drives, and any type they look for the big play it is a very calculated risk with the utmost chance for success.

As I mentioned Belfry has seen several teams I] like[/I] Wayne County. In fact, Belfry has played and even defeated teams just as talented if not substantially more talented... but Wayne is a different animal because they simply execute and are so damn consistent every single time out. What worries me about Wayne is that they are the perfect storm offensively of the players who have hurt Belfry this year:

QB Accuracy- CAK
QB Mobility- Gallia Academy
RB Depth and Skill- Southwestern
Receiver Route Running- CAK
Line Execution (not size or skill)- Johnson Central

Belfry has seen better skill talent (Bourbon/Somerset), they have seen an equally dangerous QB (Bourbon), they have played a bigger, better line (JC and Harlan County), and they have seen better RB's (Bourbon, JC, Harlan Co)..but they have yet to see an offense as well rounded and deficient of blaring weakness like Wayne.

The Belfry defense is playing at a very high level right now... they have a daunting task this week. Wayne isn't a team like Bourbon or JC where one missed tackle equals 6 points.. but they make up for it with the fact that they literally are content taking 6 yards at a time because they are so confident that they will not make a mistake. Belfry has to walk that fine line of playing conservative to force Wayne to play their game, and at the same time dialing up enough calculated risks being taken to disrupt te Wayne flow and force some 3rd and Longs.
