Johnson Central vs. Covington Catholic 4A playoffs
ballboy Wrote:Good luck to Johnson Cent.. ...I was just saying the Northern Kentucky schools are a little bit better than the Eastern Kentucky schools. I hope Joihnson Cent wins 4A but how many times have we been on here and seen that at the end of the night a Northern Kentucky school has beaten an Eastern Kentucky school in the playoffs? Cov Catholic has played better quality of teams that all I was saying. And this game will be close I dont think either team will score in the 40 point range.

When was the last time a NKY team beat Belfry? 2000 against Ryle?

The fact remains your better teams in EKY typically don't play NKY teams due to geography. The only times I can remember Belfry playing a NKY team over the past decade has been wins versuses NewCath, Cov. Holy Cross, and the best Lloyd Memorial team of the past 20 years. There simply aren't many 3A NKY teams.

The Best EKY teams in recent years are Belfry, JC, Bell, Harlan County, and Breathitt County. To be honest outside of those the drop is fairly significant.

Bell County has had some battles over the years with Highlands but they have all been in the Semi-Finals. Bell equated themselves well. When classes changed Bell's hurdle was Boyle County and now Central. You simply dont see NKY teams come up.

Breathitt is in the same boat as Belfry.. no 3A NKY teams to meet in the playoffs. They have made short work of weak NKY teams though in the regular season as well anyone should.

Harlan County for all intents of purposes are new-money in the EKY hierarchy, They have a pair of Semi-Finals losses to Highlands and Cooper respectively. Cooper game was close and the Jags were the favorite entering.

Johnson Central is your only other perennial top Mountain team and they have fared well versuses CovCath. Noone is beating Highlands (NKY or across the state) so that really can't be used to justify regional strength.

The only place where NKY teams have sustained perennial dominance over EKY schools is in 2A. NewCath and Holy Cross have feasted on teams like Somerset, Pburg, and Corbin over the years.
