Cornerback Amadi looking for early playing time

Nashville (Tenn.) John Overton cornerback Ugo Amadi is one of Kentucky's top defensive back targets from the 2015 class and he wasn't bothered by the Wildcats' season-opening loss.

Amadi has early offers from Kentucky, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Duke with more sure to come. At 5-foot-9 and 183 pounds he's an explosive athlete in the secondary and plays bigger than his size.

In John Overton's season opener against Father Ryan, Amadi picked off two passes. Not surprisingly, in their second game the opponent didn't throw Amadi's way much.

"I guess they saw what I did," Amadi said with a laugh. "I've been working on my ball skills, my zone coverage and reading more than one receiver at a time."

Amadi's primary focus isn't recruiting right now but he would like to visit UK, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Duke during the season.

Derrick Ansley has been keeping in touch with the 2015 corner from the UK staff, as he's primarily responsible for recruiting Tennessee outside of Memphis.

"We've been talking and he's wanting me to come up for a visit," Amadi said. "I want to play my freshman year and I think I could do that there (at Kentucky) and at Tennessee.

"I know they lost [to Western Kentucky] but I see it as a positive because they've got a new coach and last year they weren't good at all. It takes time to get better. It's just going to take time so I'm fine with it."

Amadi said he camped at Kentucky, Tennessee and Vanderbilt over the summer.
