I do get what some on here are saying that scrimmaging weak opponents doesn't give a team a real test. Mayfield lately has always scrimmaged TN 3a power Milan. Before that it was 3a hopkinsville and before they were put on our regular schedule 6a Marshall County . Point is scrimmages should at least challenge u a litttle. No Challenges equal running clocks in Dec. Fairview played nobody and felt like their running game wouldn't be stopped never worked on a passing game and were one dimentional in the state finals. Going to say if Fairview had played somebody who tested them and showed them their running game could be stopped then maybe they put in some wrinkles in to open up the offense and force defenders out of the box.

Pretty much sums up Eastern Kentucky Football right there! We do have a few teams from time to time who will pass some, but all in all most of the coaches just think run, run, run. Don't get me wrong because to me nothing in this game is more beutiful then when the oline does its thing and a TB takes it to the house, but we have way to many teams who are one dimensioal. A lot of people try to say that we just don't have the right players in the east to be good at the pass, but I promise you that we do it's just that all coaches and fans in this area think about form youth league on up is the run game. We have had a lot of players from this area who IMO would be good receivers or qb's, but they were put in the wrong position or they just never had anyone work with em. People spend so much time running and stoping the run and put very little time into passing and stoping the pass that when they get against a team from out west or up north who can do both well then we have no answer for it. I believe that teams like Highlands, Mayfield, Lexington Cath, and Bowling Green work hard with the kids on passing and receiving fundamentals from youth league on up and if teams from the east would do that I believe we would see more state champs from this area. I believe with all my heart that Eastern Kentucky has had some teams who lost some state championships or never even made it to the big game that were just as talented and well coached as the teams who did make it but we will never know because they could not pass or stop the pass. Sorry for the little rant and I know this was off topic but this is how i feel. This is something that's been bothering me for years with Eastern Kentucky football. Some of you may disagree with me and that is fine but it is awful funny that even some of the teams who beat us are like hey great team but your one dimensioal on both sides of the ball and that is why you could not play with us.
