Mike Holcomb hired as Letcher Central Head Coach

Observing Wrote:Don't know that it dos or doesn't, but it's not hard to imagine that
the state takeover DOES pay a big role. Big time h.s. coaches
with the resume and longevity of Holcomb tend to become
icon's who aren't held to the same rules, and have tons of influence
over hwo their players are treated.

Don't know, or really care for that matter, but it's easy to see
that the state takeover COULD change the dynamic and make
a coach want to seek other opportunities.

You're right that they aren't held to the same rules, their rules are tighter clamped IMO. Coaches, in particular, football and basketball coaches in communities are more noticeable than most, if not all of the administrators. It doesn't mean it's right, but it's true.

The rules are tighter on these coaches, IMO. For example, take Joe Bob Billy the science teacher and John Doe the teacher/head football coach. If both of them were to get DUI's, who is the biggest news story? Who is on the front page of the paper and who has a little insert on pg A-12?

Heck, take somebody at Central Office, the Transportation or a Curriculum Coordinator. Let them get a DUI as well as the Head Football Coach, and watch which is more scrutinized (b/c more people give a dang about one than the other, it's just fact).

So, pardon me if I've never bought the 'coaches get to do whatever they want to do' line. Coaches, teachers, Admin, doctors, nurses, lawyers, para-legals are all held to the same rules, some are just better at not getting caught (if doing anything not in compliance with company policy).
