Mike Holcomb hired as Letcher Central Head Coach

Trust Me Wrote:The way around big coaching salaries is to give the coach enough fake job titles and small salaries to add up to one big salary. However, I think the days of a coach sitting on his duff all day and not teaching at least a PE class is definitely coming to an end. Especially if the state is taking over and breathing down everybody's necks.

Another matter entirely is secret envelopes full of booster cash changing hands . That will continue.

I truthfully don't know of any coaches who don't teach a class these days. I know some who (I'm using examples of 6 period days, here):
-teach through lunch, then have a weightlifting class, followed by a Planning.
-teach until lunch, then lunch room duty, then another class, then planning.
-teach until lunch, then ISS (football and basketball coaches trade ISS)
-teach a couple classes in the morning, then Homebound the rest of the day

Those are just a few examples of ones I know for sure of that have a "padded" teaching schedule. What bothers me is that, if the District Homebound Instructor is a woman that doesn't teach, then nothing is said. If the AG teacher has lunchroom duty, w/ 6th period planning; nothing is said. Etc. Etc. Just another example of Double Standards. I tell you what else bothers me, and thats the fact that if someone gets out of the classroom to become an administrator, nothing is said. I got news for everybody, those teacher or teachers/coaches that get into administration w/ not many years of experience (<10 years), don't take admin gigs because "they love" being in the classroom. As a matter of fact, the coach who doesnt want to teach is no different than the teacher (with minimal years into it mind you) who gets into administration. Yes, the pay is more. I get that and fully understand it. But if you got them one on one and asked them if they truly loved being in the classroom fulltime, the answer would be a BIG no.

The schools that value academics and athletics, the ones who realize that you CAN be great at both and currently are, won't change their ways. Even board members, administrators and coaches of the "minor" sports realize what program(s) is the cash cow for all of the rest. They won't put that in jeapordy.
