Newport Central Catholic 88 - Holmes 85 (2nd OT)
#10
These are two very good teams. It's a shame only one of them will be able to represent the 9th region at the state tournament. NewCath would probably be the best rep for the 9th in that they have the size to compete at Rupp. The teams with big frontcourts tend to do well at state if they don't get upended in the first round. I've noticed that trend over the years. The smaller, quicker teams play solid in the first round or two, but they lose a little spring in their hops as the touranament wears on.

Paintsville in 1998 is a good example. They were fortunate to win close games in the first two rounds but cruised in the final two games. They had the big frontcourt of Van Hoose, Ratliff, and McKinley.
