LEXINGTON CATHOLIC-Republic Bank Classic
#12
Dixie Heights and Covington Scott could not travel today due to the severe winter storm. This caused forfeits in favor of Paintsville and Johnson Co. who now advance to the bracket of 16. Dixie Hts and Scott will go to the consolation bracket if they are able to participate tomorrow.

To allow travel at a safer time Thursday, game 8 with Dixie Hts. vs. Oldham Co will move from noon to 3:30 and to Beuter Gym. Game 12 between Butler and Somerset Prep will make the opposite change to noon, in Alumni Gym. Depending on travel conditions, other changes might be needed. As of Wed. nite there are no cancellations for tomorrow, but follow the weather news and use judgment. The consolation brackets in the program are correct, but the online version says game 18 has the loser of game 30. This should say the loser of game 9 (Ohio Co. vs. Roger Bacon).

Bishop Brossart had small first quarter and halftime leads, fell behind by about 7 in the 3rd, and came from 45-42 at 2 min or so to go into overtime 47-47 with Oldham Co. They hit their last 6 free throws and Oldham couldn’t buy a bucket, final 58-52 for BB. BB is a patient and methodical team but their long and lazy passes will be picked off and turned into points by some of the teams here.

Ohio County looked very good over Bourbon Co. 72-57. Their game tomorrow with Roger Bacon may be a really good one. Good to see ex-Lafayette player Snoop Johnson back on the court with Bourbon Co.

LexCath over Somerset Prep 81-33, not to be a smart-aleck but wasn’t as close as it sounds. 57-12 halftime. Running clock entire second half, LexCath only played JV in 2nd.

Butler-Henry Clay expected to be a great game, didn’t materialize. Henry Clay out big early, lead stayed 15-17 most of the way. Butler’s a short team but spent the whole game going to the rim, where Tichenor, Grundy, Green et al from HC looked like volleyball players swatting the ball away all night. Henry Clay might be all that, but threw the ball away a lot and uses 7 players for almost all minutes, even with a comfortable lead. Don’t crown them yet, even in the region.

Lexington Christian had a small early lead on Fayette Co., Georgia when we left. Ended up winning by 2. Long day.
