We always have a spread when we open gifts. The number of my family members have decreased in recent years, and extended family members live so far away that we never get together. So about 14 of us will come together at some point in time, eat well, exchange gifts and hang out. I love it! Wouldn't change anything. We may eat Christmas dinner anywhere from Dec 24 - 27th. The date of the celebration has never meant very much to me, as long as we have the dinner!! Smile
I have family in California that spend Thanksgiving and Christmas feeding the homeless in shelters and celebrate privately on another day. This is about the only thing that they are involved with to which I can relate! LOL
