The problem I have is if someone randomly buys a joint gift for my wife and I they expect something in return. And if the gift we receive is a recycled cocoa mug set then I don't feel inclined to do anything. Personally I would rather nobody on my wife's side get us any kind of present. Just get together and hang out would be great for me. My side of the family usually gets a little more expensive gifts but once again I'd rather get together than exchange gifts. I wish we could just buy for the kids.

But maybe it's just me.
