Paintsville Basketball in Book Forum

CoachTrimble Wrote:Many of you know I coach at Paintsville and played at Johnson Central. Both schools have brought alot to the 15th region throughout it's history. My Dad played at Oil Springs back in the late 50's on a team that won over 30 games but lost to Meade in the regional tourney to Harry Meeks Dad. I could tell alot of great stories. My reason for posting is the fact that Harry Meek WAS a Mcdonald's All American (Honarable Mention). I played with Harry and he was the toughest and most determined player I ever played with. I still think he's the best player to ever put on a Johnson Central uniform. Bob Hutchinson presented Harry with the certificate at halftime of one of our games. We lost in the state tourney that year (1984) in a game we controlled throughout. We were ahead 75-70 with 30 seconds to go and lost 76-75. That team went on to the final four and we were crushed that we let a chance slip away. We were a top 5 team that season. Lost to Logan County in the AIT 58-50. Logan county won the state championship in 1984. Don't mean to ramble but lastly I will say this, DennyCrum coached Louisville when Harry signed to play baseball there. Coach Crum met with Harry three separate occassions and practically begged Harry to play for Louisville. By the way..Louisville won the NCAA championship in 1986. Harry should have been on that team. I still think he regrets that decision. To say that Harry wasn't as good as Todd Tackett or Keith Adkins is ludicrous. Trust me, he wasn't as atheletic as Todd but his toughness and determination were like nothing I've ever seen. He refused to be out worked. Harry was heavily recruited in basketball but chose baseball. I love the history of the 15th region but don't call out players and question their ability.

Honarable Mention part was the IMPORTANT PART that was left off that picture. You are welcome to your opinion same as I am. My point was about how the picture that was in the JCHS trophy case was MISLEADING. There is no doubt that Harry Meek was one of the best in JCHS histroy. Its great that any player from eastern kentucky wins a award but when you allow people to lay claim to a award that they didn't win, that is a slap in the face to the players that earn such awards!! I once heard a JC fan tell me about how Harry scored in the last few mins, of a game (1984 McDonlds All American game) he wasn't even at :lmao:. I also know a teacher in the JC system that in recent years laid claim to going STATE in a sport he was even inducted into the JCHS Hall-of-fame but his claim was a BLACK LIE. Making false claims is WRONG and it is always WRONG a LIE is WRONG.
