Yes, there are some very strange things about the timing of Petraeus's resignation. Like so many other stories that might have undermined Obama's reelection campaign, the results of the FBI investigation was suppressed for months. The White House claims that it only learned of the investigation the day after the election. How convenient, particularly since Petraeus was already scheduled to testify about the response to the Benghazi attack.

Eventually, we may learn the real reason why the FBI was authorized to investigate Petraeus and who requested the investigation. I don't trust any explanation that comes from the Obama administration. It looks like Petraeus is either being set up as a fall guy or the White House is attempting to undermine his credibility in advance. Maybe both.
