Georgetown Tigers are No. 1 again
#1
GEORGETOWN, Ky (WKYT) - Georgetown College football has climbed the summit once again, earning the No. 1 ranking in the nation in the NAIA Coaches Poll Monday afternoon.

The No. 1 Tigers have been on a steady climb since being ranked No. 9 in the 2011 preseason poll. In the first official poll of this past year, GC jumped to No. 8. The team spent the next two weeks at No. 7, then No. 6 and No. 5 before spending three weeks as No. 4. The Tigers finished the regular season as No. 3. Postseason and the preseason poll put Georgetown back to No. 4, before spending three weeks this season at No. 3 and the past five at No. 2.

"This isn't something new for us and hopefully we carry ourselves in the right manner for being the top ranked team," said GC coach Bill Cronin. "It is always an honor to be in this position, but there is a lot more work to be done. Hopefully we have six more weeks of football."

The Tigers were last ranked No. 1 on Sept. 10, 2002. Since 1999, Georgetown has been ranked the top team 24 times. A 77-0 win Saturday coupled with then No. 1 Marian losing to then No. 5 Saint Xavier, opened the spot once again for GC.

The remaining top five teams slid up one spot as well and Marian fell to No. 5. Spots six through nine stayed the same as University of the Cumberlands held on to the No. 8 spot. Cumberland University (Tenn.) made the highest jump of the week, coming out of the receiving votes and back in the poll at No. 21. Bethel University moved from No. 21 to No. 18 to round out the Mid-South Conference teams in the rankings. Faulkner has dropped out of the poll completely. It was receiving votes this past week and had cracked the Top 25 earlier this year.

Carroll College had the largest tumble, dropping from No. 16 to No. 22 after its fourth loss of the season.
