While consolidation was necessry for economic survival, the magic of Kentucky high school basketball has been diminished considerably by the loss of the small schools like Tollesboro. The intensity and pride of the fans is not near the same for the large consolidations as it was for the small community schools. For example, Greenup County does not engender the fan support of its predecessors- Greenup, Wurtland, McKell, and South Portsmouth. And, all those little schools in the 15th Region and 14th Region were sources of pride for their supporters.
