Pistons gained a LOT of cap room. They might be looking to make a splash. I think they are 14 million under the cap now.

Also remember that the pick is lottery protected. If the Pistons are lottery-bad again, then they wait until next year, etc....

With that in mind, I think it is a fair trade all around.
