Unfortunately I don't find this surprising. Our team has injuries all the time and they don't even begin to touch the surface of difficulty that most teams in the area do. Between all the hits during practice, the repetitive motions, and the accidents it is a wonder half the girls can even walk. LOL
This is one reason why I am fighting so hard to get our team to a professional gym with appropriate equipment. It scares me to know that we keep bringing in hometown highschool cheer phenoms to teach skills. They aren't trained, they aren't insured, and they certainly don't bring equipment with them that could be used to prevent accidents.
