Blackman parent here -
Who said our coach insulted BG prior to the game? It's just not true. The kids were all talking smack on Twitter prior to our arrival with many of the BG fans tweeting things like "Buck Flackman" and "Just been informed that the Blackman b******s are officially in BG"
This is normal banter between students.
When our team came out on the field, people are saying we ran through the BG tunnel. NOPE. Our kids ran out in front of our fans and being unfamiliar with coming out on the opposite side as their sideline, they ended up mixed in with the BG kids who came out at exactly the same time. Check out the second video link below.
We play a spirited brand of football in Tennessee. Looked to me like BG doesn't play very good competition week in and week out like our team does and because of that, it appeared to me that they were not used to the physical style of play that Blackman brings. In TN, our band sometimes plays when the opposing team comes to the line. It's supposed to be disrupting. Our players are allowed to play a physical game and they are allowed to have emotions, and yes, they are generally allowed to be upset with a call they don't agree with.
The referees in this contest were obviously taken aback by the physical style of play we bring and they were surely intent on teaching our kids a lesson about how things are done in KY. It is undeniable that if these officials had not been so involved, the outcome of the game would be different.
That's not what is important though. For my son, the lesson was, sometimes life treats you unfairly. Its a good lesson to learn but not from an official whose integrity is questionable.
If you dont believe me, look at the following clip:
The first play is out QB getting hit out of bounds TWICE and no call. He was enveloped by BG players who said some bad things to him and our kids came to get him. We were hit with a flag for unsportsmanlike for talking back to the kids who were insulting him.
The next scene is immediately after that when we got back to the huddle and our TE left the huddle headed to the line. The ref was in the way and backing into him and he put his hand on the ref's shoulder and eased past him to the line. Boom. Another unsportsmanlike.
Anyone want to call BS on that?
Look, the Purples are a good football team and no one is criticizing the kids.
We had parents/fans removed from behind our sideline by the police for cussing/threatening our kids. The fans/students in the BG stands threw things at our players as they went in the locker room at halftime. Some members of our band received nachos and cheese through the air on their uniforms as well. BG was not a friendly place and the layout is also not conducive to competitive football as well.
First, you need a visitor stand. We had one fan on our side who was being loud and obnoxious and I'm sure BG had the same. The fans should be separated. As long as both teams sit on the same side, the ingress to the field should be timed so that both teams are not coming out together. The egress to the locker room both teams heading the same direction at the same time. Not a good idea either.
Don't be scared to come to TN to play next year. We will definitely provide a better and fairer environment so that the kids who win the game will not have to put an asterisk next to the W.
Check out the following clip as well.
You'll find most of the flags laughable unless you have on permanently purple shades.
Saying "Come on ref" to an official should not result in a 15 yard penalty. If anyone let this game get out of control, it was the officials.
