The University of Kentucky added another piece to its backcourt for next season on Sunday night, landing a commitment from Julius Mays.

Mays, a 6-foot-2 combo guard originally from Marion, Ind., is a fifth-year senior transferring from Wright State University. He has one season of eligibility remaining and will be eligible to play immediately for the Wildcats.

A former Indiana All-Star, Mays picked UK over Purdue. He made an unofficial visit to Lexington and made his decision after a weekend official visit to Purdue.

“I sure did,” Mays said when asked if he committed to UK.

Mays began his college basketball and then played last season at Wright State where he was the Horizon League newcomer of the year. He led Wright State in scoring (14.1 points) and assists (74) while shooting 42.4 percent from three-point range.

Mays also hit 83.2 percent from the free-throw line last season, setting a school record by making 19 free throws against Illinois-Chicago last January.

He’s scheduled to complete his undergraduate degree in June.http://www.courier-journal.com/article/2...|text|Home
