Madison Southern Local archers fly high

BEREA — B. Michael Caudill shooters turned in the top performances last week at the Region 9 Archery Meet at Madison Southern High School.

Courtney Patton and Bradley Long were named the overall high point champions of the meet, recording the highest scores of any female and male competitor.

Long posted a nearly perfect score of 298, which included 28 10s, as he finished with the top score in the male middle school division.

He beat out his nearest competitor by 15 points.

Patton was outstanding as well.

The eighth-grader finished with a total of 288, which included 20 10s. She beat out teammate Hannah Carroll by eight points.

Led by Patton and Long, Caudill captured the regional title in the middle school division.

Caudill had 3,323 points, while Foley Middle had 3,173 points. Caudill’s B Team finished third with 3,017 points, Madison Middle was fourth (2,941), Farristown Middle was fifth (2,928) and Clark Moores Middle was seventh (2,812).

Long ran away with the individual middle school male title, but many other shooters posted solid scorers. Nathan McIntyre (Caudill — 283 points) was second, Jason Robinson (Foley — 280) was third, Justin Blair (Foley — 275) was fourth and Jared Isaacs (Caudill — 272) was fifth.

Five of the top seven finishers in this division were from Caudill.

In the female middle school division, Carroll (Caudill — 280 points) was second, Nikki Hensley (Farristown — 278) was third, Keeley Foley (Caudill — 276) was fourth and Jessie Hart (Caudill — 276) was fifth.

In the high school division, Madison Southern had the top female and male shooters and edged out Madison Central for the first place.

Southern finished with 3,345 points. Central had 3,297 points.

Southern’s Luis Quiles finished with a total score of 293 (24 10s) and beat out Central’s Billy Dennis and Ryan Long for the individual title. Matt Lake was fourth (Southern — 290 points), while Jae Durham (Southern — 282 points) and Christian Carter (Central — 282 points) tied for fifth.

Southern’s Cynthia Clark (284 points, 20 10s) edged Madison Central’s Genna Flannery for the high school female individual title.

Bailee Rowlette (Southern — 280 points) was third , Amber Potts (Southern — 275 points) was fourth and Laura Haney (Central — 273 points) was fifth.

In the elementary division, Caudill once again took the title, edging out White Hall by just 18 points (3,067 to 3,049).

Glenn Marshall Elementary was third (2,934), Kirksville Elementary was fourth (2,672), Kingston Elementary was fifth (2,641), Shannon Johnson Elementary was sixth (2,630) and Waco Elementary was eighth (2,348).

In the female elementary division, five of the six top shooters were from Caudill.

Mary Barnes (Caudill — 271 points, 14 10s), edged out Annie Harden (Madison Middle — 270) by one point for first place. Bethany Grace (Caudill — 264) was third, Carrie McCarty (Caudill — 259) was fourth and Abby Cruse (Caudill — 258) was fifth.

In the male elementary division, Caudill had three of the top five shooters.

Tanner Cecil (Caudill — 276 points, 14 10s) took the title, beating over Ashton Hulberg (Glenn Marshall — 273 points). Evan Courtwright (Caudill — 272) was third, Nyden Reed (White Hall — 270) was fourth and Chase Karzewski (Caudill — 269) was fifth.

The top five finishers in each division qualify as individuals for the state tournament, which is scheduled for April 2 and 3 at the Louisville Convention Center.

In addition, 10 Madison County squads qualified as teams for the state tournament — Madison Central and Madison Southern (high school); Caudill A & B, Foley, Madison Middle and Farristown (middle school) and Caudill, White Hall and Glenn Marshall (elementary).
