Top-ranked Manual claims 7th Region title

Manual has been at or near the top of every poll this season, considered No. 1 at this point after beating Marion County in the LIT final.

Now, the Lady Crimsons are four games from a state title.

Manual didn’t have an easy time of it on Saturday night but still had too much talent and took out Assumption 65-43 in the Seventh Region title game at Bellarmine.

The Lady Crimsons have now won two regional titles in a row and lost last season in the state tournament final to Rockcastle County.

Senior LeAsia Wright, one of the state’s top unsigned prospects, led the Lady Crimsons with 14 points and eight rebounds on just 5 of 15 from the field.

Junior Kayla Styles added 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Purdue signee April Wilson had 10 points, five assists and three steals. Maine signee Lauren Bodine had eight points, including two huge three-pointers.

Senior Morgan Foley, who would be a nice small-college pickup, led Assumption with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Nora Kiesler is the best young prospect in the state at 6-foot-6 with good hands. She finished with nine points and four boards in 18 minutes.
