This kind of nonsense is exactly why I have said for YEARS that there needs to be a shot clock in high school. Theoretically, if the team leading gets the ball first in the fourth quarter, they could just hold it and never attempt a shot.

Yes, I know, the other team could come out, play defense and try to steal it. But what if the team ahead has great ballhandlers? Just a ridiculous way to win a game.

I can't say I blame the Highlands coach. Within the framework of the rules at present, he did what he could to try to win. I fault the system, which for reasons that escape me, doesn't see the need for a shot clock.

The easy answer is a 45-second clock. The pros have 24, college is 35, so 45 in high school seems reasonable to me.
