Marion County edges Manual in showdown
Posted on January 15, 2012 by Jody Demling
There were as many as nine Division I players on the court in Marion County on Saturday night as No. 1 Manual fell 63-61 at the hands of No. 2 Marion County.
The gym was packed as Logan Powell made two free throws with 2.7 seconds left and Kara Wright missed a last-second shot for the Crimsons.
It was a fun atmosphere.
University of Louisville commitments Makayla Epps and Kyvin Goodin-Rogers -both in the junior class â were both sensational at times for Marion County. Epps finished with 16 points and eight assists, while Goodin-Rogers had 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Thereâs no question Epps and Goodin-Rogers are the two best juniors in the state â besides Owensboro Catholicâs Becca Greenwell - and both are right there when talking about the best players in the state regardless of class.
Dayton signee Bre Elder added 11 points, while Powell had 10.
Marion County did make 24 turnovers and the game was in Lebanon, but the Lady Knights are really talented and will be tough to beat in the postseason.
On the Manual side, junior Kayla Styles finished with 15 points and nine rebounds but was just 3 of 10 from the free-throw line. Purdue signee April Wilson had 16 points.
Wilson was just 5 of 10 from the field and in a close game like this one, I would think Manual coach Stacy Pendleton would like to get Wilson a few more looks.
This will be a fun one to watch again later in the year!
