Whitley got bigger and stronger after Campbell took over and then became a different team. He did turn them around. That used to be an automatic win for Cawood in the old days.

Before Campbell, the football program at Whitley was almost non existent. It was an automatic win for everyone. the program started in the early sixties and struggled mightily, only winning a handful of games each year.
Campbell was very smart and very young. When he took over he was the youngest head coach in the state at 24 i believe. He knew what it took in order to turn a program around. He built that thing up from the ground and quickly got the facilities Whitley needed in order to be a contender. Slowly but surely, kids bought in and you had some monsters on them teams Whitley had in the 90's and even into the early 00's. If it wasnt for the fact Whitley was stuck in a district with Bell and Rock for years, Whitley would probably have 7 or 8 more district titles in some of those other 3A districts.
All Whitley fans should be forever grateful for what he did at Whitley because had he not came along and stayed for almost 20 years, Whitley would still be in shambles.
