Princeton (Ohio) 75 Boone Co. 66
#16
WV Frank Wrote:What Moss did last night was accomplished on sheer effort and guts. She generally was involved in helping break the press, crashed the boards to rebound, and defended intensely (blocked sx shots including at least two of Kelsey Mitchell's, including blocking a 3 and retrieving the ball and helping on Kelsey to swat a driving lay-up out of bounds from behind).

The amazing thing is that her shot was not falling (had it been she would have topped 50 last night and Boone would have won). But she hustled like crazy after her own misses, 2-3 times getting three shots off including follows before scoring or being fouled. She was generally surrounded by 2-3 girls when around the hoop and just continued to battle. Again, shots she has historically made fall and the outcome is different.

The game was actually Princeton up by 3 with just under a minute to go and Boone with the ball, but Boone missed and Princeton cleaned up at the free throw line as Boone had to foul.

Princeton is really tough, quicker than anybody in Kentucky, good defensively with excellent hands and footwork, sound as far as their offensive and defensive schemes, and last night had one of their better overall shooting games. And they needed that to beat Boone.

Kelsey Mitchell is as good as advertised although she still makes some "young" mistakes (she is young!), and her sister is pretty good as well. In fact their first 7 or 8 is really solid.

Coach Fookes continued to play her two frosh guards in pressure situations, I'm sure pointing toward the end of the season and that will pay off down the road.

Really good game to watch and worth the 7+ hours of driving (over and back) I did to be there!

Awesome recap!

I really like the persepctive on Fookes and the Frosh. What so many people forget is that November and December are all about setting up February and March.

My favorite coach for many reasons was Denny Crum. He was in a very weak conference, so he loaded up his early season schedule with monster games, and a lot of times his young Cards took their beatings. But come March, his kids were battle ready and were not intimidated by anyone on the other bench.
