Actually, the record between the schools is 3-1 in Highlands favor. Highlands won in 1960 (26-13 in BG), 1961 (49-6 in Ft Thomas) and 2007 (28-7 in Louisvillle for the 5A state championship). Bowling Green won in 1995 (28-12 in Louisville for the 3A state championship).

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Mine is that Western KY football in general, may have been better that Northern KY football in the late 1960's, but not recently, except that Mayfield seems to own Beechwood the last three years.

Highlands has won the last 4 5A championships by scores of 50-0, 35-7. 35-15 and 28-7, all over Western KY schools. The last WKY (I don't consider Boyle County a WKY schoo0 school to beat HHS was BG in 1995, 16 years ago.

Caught me, didn't look back far enough. The results of the 60s (or even 1995 and 2007) are as relevant to this year as if we compared scores of games from the 40s. 3-1 advantage, or even just the 1-0 advantage of any time that would be called recent, none of it has bearing on this year. No player on any of those teams remains.

This whole discussion is opinion, so of course pretty much any statement I make is going to be my opinion. I've seen Highlands fans state this year's team is clearly better than last year's team - there has to be basis for that opinion. As I said at the end of my post, I invite you take a look at the schedule Bowling Green played, the results of those games, and compare it to previous years and tell me that there is no basis for my opinion. And that's not even taking into account that I am extremely familiar with the team and have seen them more than a fair share in that timeframe.

It is not my opinion that Bowling Green has been building to this team for years, that is something that has been told to me and it is extremely obvious when you look at the personnel. I don't know how common it is to have 31 seniors with multiple multi-year starters at Highlands, but it isn't common anywhere around here.

Lastly, I am not arguing that WKY football is better than NKY football. I'm not arguing that Highlands wasn't far better than any in the west in recent years. I'm only arguing that this Bowling Green team is different from the teams you are familiar with. And that should be apparent to anyone that has seen them or is paying attention.
