Litkenhous Ratings 11/21/11
#6

Gentlemen, the formula Litkenhous uses has been around unchanged since the 1920s. It is not meant for point spreads. It is only designed to predict winners of particular games. It was the rating system to crown mythical KY state champions until the playoffs began in 1959. After that, these ratings were used to decide local playoff teams in AAA.

Dr. Litkenhous has long since passed away. His formula lives on in secrecy. The Courier-Journal does not divulge its measuring system. Another side note: this ranking was the Sagarin of the 1920s through the 1950s with countless newspapers paying for its analysis of college football. It is the grandaddy of them all.

This Class A ranking says the odds are, based on games played against KY competition only, that #1 would win vs. #2, etc. Head to head does not apparently carry anymore weight than a game against a common opponent.
