Bullitt East has three starters back in Willis and junior guards Rusty Troutman and Trey Rakes. The Chargers lost 6-7 Corey Washburn and leading scorer Hayden Sweat.
“Washburn and Sweat were winners (and combined to average 34 points), but we’ll be a different team this season,” Barr said. “We’ll play faster, force the tempo and be more dependent on three-point shooting. Kory Caufield has solidified a role as a starter and is a great leader. We’ll have a lot of height with (6-6) Elliott Young.”
Barr said Willis will be “ready for anything. He’ll be double- and triple-teamed. Derek was pretty passive last season playing with two seniors. He’ll be more aggressive to score this season. There are few players in the state who can guard Derek.”
Returning with McKay as starters for Moore are point guard Daquan Boyd, guard James Sanford and 6-4 William Bryant.
“Boyd is the best point guard in the state, and Bryant is a rebounding machine,” Jones said. “If I had to choose between Willis and McKay, I’d take McKay. This is only his fourth season of organized basketball. His upside is huge.”
