Troy Barr, coach of defending Sixth Region champion Bullitt East, and Sheldon Jones Jr., Moore’s new coach, agree that the new alignment makes the Sixth just as strong as the Seventh — maybe slightly stronger. What they don’t see eye to eye on is which team should be the favorite to represent the Sixth in the Sweet 16 next March.
“If we’re picked No. 1, I don’t see it,” Barr said. “Moore is the team to beat.”
“Bullitt East is going to be very good,” said Jones, an assistant at Moore the past two seasons. “They’re probably No. 1 in our region.”
Bullitt East, which reached the Sweet 16 semifinals before losing to Rowan County 51-49 last March, is the coaches’ favorite to repeat as regional champion mainly because the Chargers have the state’s No. 1 college prospect in 6-foot-9 junior Derek Willis.
