Player to watch: G O’Brien Hobbs (5-9,Sr., 13.2 ppg., 2.5 apg.). Hobbs is Fern Creek’s “do it all guy,’’ Layfield said. “He has a good understanding of the game, he is our leader and he has a real good outside shot. He scored 27 against Boone County last season.’’

Other top players: G Michael Parrish (5-9, Sr., 8.4 ppg., 3.9 apg.); F Jamie Carr (6-2, Sr., 7.5 ppg., 4.9 rpg.); F Justin Newby (6-3, Sr., 6.9 ppg., 6.7 rpg.); F-C Deon Wimberly (6-1, Jr., 3.5 ppg., 1.9 rpg.); F Derrick Walker (6-4, Sr.,2.4 ppg., 1.7 rpg.).

Outlook—With Parrish the point guard and Hobbs the shooting guard, Fern Creek has two lightning quick guards who show leadership and run the show. Layfield is looking for Carr to have a breakout season and thinks 6-4 sophomore Joe Jackson could be a surprise. He calls being in the same district with Bullitt East and Jeffersontown “a challenge.’’
