Bowling Green's Purples came out golden Friday night.

The No. 3 team in the state, clad in gold uniforms, remained unbeaten with a dominating 30-12 victory at Lexington Catholic.
Next up for Bowling Green (10-0) is a home game in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs against Apollo.

No. 14 Catholic (8-2), which had a seven-game winning streak snapped, will open the 4A playoffs at home against Clay County.
"They're big and physical and well-coached, and they bring a lot of pressure," Catholic Coach Bill Letton said of the Purples. "They had a great game plan and executed.
"They just made some more plays on third down than we did."

The Purples were stifling on defense and methodical on offense.
Montel Carpenter paced the defense with six tackles.

Scooter Hollis completed 14 of 27 passes for 239 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for 25 yards and a TD. Nacarius Fant caught seven balls for 155 yards.
Derek Hayden and Jordan Artrip had seven tackles each for the Knights.
Kyle Bolin completed 17 of 28 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown, with one interception. Favorite target David Bouvier had seven catches for 68 yards.
"I thought we were really good defensively," Purples Coach Kevin Wallace said. "You take away two long plays and I think that's about as good as we could expect to play.
"Offensively, I thought we were really ragged. Wasn't very satisfied with the job I did. I don't think I was very comfortable with what we were trying to do offensively, and I think I hurt our team in particular in the first half."
Nevertheless, Bowling Green led 13-0 at halftime, outgaining the Knights 232 yards to 66.
With temperatures hovering near 40 degrees, the Purples took the opening kickoff and drove 76 yards to the Catholic 4 before settling for a Sam Williams 21-yard field goal.
A fumbled kickoff, recovered by Michael Bailey, gave Bowling Green a chance to expand the lead. This time, though, Catholic held by stopping Bailey short on a fake punt play.
However, the Knights couldn't get past the Bowling Green 40 in the half, and finished with minus-9 rushing yards.

Their deficit grew to 10-0 with 7:43 left in the half, when Fant returned a punt 69 yards to the end zone.
Williams added a 31-yard field goal with eight seconds left.

Catholic scored on its first possession of the second half to pull to within 13-6.
Amoh Kumengisa got the score on a 58-yard run to his left, breaking several tackles along the Catholic sideline.
But Bowling Green came back with another Williams field goal.

Moments later, Cheivy McCutchen's interception set up another short scoring drive, culminated by a 3-yard toss from Hollis to Sam Wilson.
Hollis ran 7 yards for a score with 4:38 left, pushing the lead to 30-6.

Catholic's second score came with 1:29 left on a 3-yard pass from Bolin to Adam Bush.

Letton said he saw some things to improve on in the coming week, including simple cadence.

"I feel like we've improved throughout the season and it was good to bring a team like Bowling Green in here," he said. "We can see those things this week and really find out what we need to work on going into the playoffs."
