It is usually from a catastrophic circumstance that keeps you out of schook, i.e. a car wreck or chemotherapy in the mentioned case. If you mess up your ankle or knee you are not going to get an extra year of eligibility. But if you are like the kid from Ohio County or Terrance Smith from Lewis County & are in a bad car wreck and out of school for 8 months, they will file a hardship case and more than likely approve.
