Frankfort, KY - Quarterback Jerrel Noland and kicker Cade Berryman had a big opening night on Sunday and were rewarded for their performances by the SIAC.
Noland, a senior from Detroit, MI, was named SIAC Offensive Player of the Week for week one.
To earn SIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Noland completed 13-of-16 passes for 218 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 55 yards on nine carries. Noland was also named MVP of the Seventh Annual Dayton Classic after leading the Thorobreds to a 39-21 victory over Central State.
Berryman, a freshman from Irving, KY, was named SIAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
In Berryman's first collegiate game, he nailed a pair of field goals from 27 and 31 yards. He also had eight kickoffs for 429 yards, averaging 53.6 yards per kick.
The Thorobreds also received two honorable mentions for the first week of the conference weekly honors.
Defense end, Carlos Ware, had seven tackles and a sack. Offensive lineman, Ky'Ayre Hubert, helped lead the Thorobred offense to 451 total offensive yards with no interceptions and no sacks.
Kentucky State moves to 1-0 on the season with the win and takes on Lincoln University (PA) in their 2011 home opener on Saturday, September 10 at 5 p.m.
