I believe we were obligated to the Vietnam War by virtue of our agreement in 1954 to support the government of South Vietnam. It was our Duty.

You are showing an enormous ignorance of history. SEATO was Truman's deal and part of the Truman Doctrine. Truman was a Democrat. JFK sent advisors to Vietnam and Johnson escalated the war - again, both were Democrats. Nixon, a Republican, negotiated (poorly, IMO - and by no stretch of the imagination was Nixon a conservative) the deal that ended the war and called for the withdrawal of troops. Yet, you blame conservatives for sending troops to Vietnam. Unbelievable.
